Tammy Williams: A Beacon of Exceptional Service and Community Advocacy
Tammy Williams stands as an exemplar of service and community leadership, passionately dedicated to enhancing the well-being of both adults and children alike. With over 20 years of experience as a Top Producing Real Estate Broker and a fervent advocate for positive change, Tammy's impact is undeniable.
Education: With a Master of Business Administration specializing in Public Administration from Northcentral University and a Bachelor of Science in the Administration of Criminal Justice from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Tammy brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her endeavors.
Community Investment: Tammy's mantra, "Everything Is Possible!", echoes through her trailblazing achievements, from being elected as the FIRST Black Councilwoman in West Orange to receiving the esteemed NJ Realtor 'Realtor of the Year'® award. Her commitment to service extends to the founding of the West Orange Suicide Advocacy Coalition (WOSAC), dedicated to suicide prevention and community wellness.
The WOSAC Foundation: In memory of her late sister, Tammy established WOSAC to provide vital resources and support for suicide prevention. Through initiatives like the annual 5K Run/Walk and mental health workshops, Tammy's proactive efforts in raising awareness have garnered recognition and praise. More than three years ago, the West Orange Police Department rolled out a new program, partnering with the Mental Health Association of Essex and Morris to send trained clinicians along with officers when they are responding to “mental health crisis calls” for non-criminal cases. Since the WOPD launched the program, the “success rate” for these encounters has been skyrocketing, an achievement that the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office recognized with an “Outstanding Community Partnership Award” in 2021.
Business: Tammy is a highly accomplished Real Estate Broker with over 20 years of experience, recognized as NJ Realtor® 'Realtor of the Year.' Beyond her success in real estate, Tammy is a featured speaker and facilitator for businesses, organizations, and schools. She has made significant contributions to community well-being. Tammy founded the West Orange Stop Suicide Advocacy Coalition (WOSAC), led the Inaugural Health & Wellness Summit in 2023, and collaborated with key organizations to address local challenges. Her dedication to service and advocacy has garnered accolades and is evident in her fostering relationships to address community challenges comprehensively. Her role in spearheading the Inaugural Health & Wellness Summit underscores her commitment to promoting physical and mental well-being.
Serving Our Community: Tammy's contributions to local governance and community development are profound from her role as Chairwoman of the West Orange Human Relations Commission to her involvement in the Planning Board and Citizens Budget Advisory Committee. She currently serves on the Boards of the West Orange Chamber of Commerce and the West Orange Arts Council.
By embracing collaboration as a personal tenet, Williams stays attuned to opportunities for partnership, exemplified in notable events such as the Township's annual Juneteenth celebration. This event unites diverse community organizations, boards, and commissions and has hosted esteemed guests, including the late Lt. Governor Sheila Y. Oliver, Congressman Donald Payne, Jr., and other state and local officials.
In 2023, Councilwoman Williams' passion for well-being and collaboration led her to spearhead the Inaugural Health & Wellness Summit, which brought over 40 vendors and offered 10 workshops dedicated to mental and physical well-being within a single West Orange location. The Summit also distributed 100 prescription eyeglasses to West Orange students.
